Marked for the Faith

In Ezekiel 9:4 we hear the Lord say to the prophet Ezekiel, “Pass through the city, through Jerusalem, and mark a “Thau” on the foreheads of those who moan and groan over all the abominations that are practiced within it.” Currently in Iraq, radical Islamists are marking the properties of Christians with the Arabic letter “nun” which is the first letter in the Arabic word for Nazarene (meaning Christian). Those whose properties have been marked have had their properties looted or destroyed and many of them have been beaten, killed, or driven from their homes. The Islamists mean this mark to be a symbol of shame for those marked with it, but to suffer on account of Christ merits much before God. In the midst of our generation it takes courage to remain faithful once marked with a proverbial Arabic letter “nun.” Even if we are not marked by someone hostile to the faith, would the way we live now mean that God’s angel could mark a “Thau” on our foreheads?
