On Thursday my classmates and I returned to Saint John’s Seminary in Brighton, MA to celebrate Eucharist and meet up with old friends. Father John Cassani, assigned at St Lucy’s and St Monica’s in Methuen, presided. Father Carlos Piedrahita, a priest of the Archdiocese of Hartford, preached. Since it was the Memorial of St Ignatius of Antioch, Father Piedrahita quoted St Ignatius and exhorted us to “prefer death in Christ Jesus to power over the farthest limits of the earth.” Monsignor James Moroney has the full text of the homily at his blog: The Rector’s Blog at Saint John’s Seminary. All of us were happy to be back where we were trained for the priesthood. I’m sure each of us shared some anecdotes of our several months in ministry with the men still in formation.
In preparation for ordination to the Sacred Priesthood of Jesus Christ, I spent eight years in seminary. I am blessed to have spent four of those years at St John’s.
St John’s has great architecture and a beautiful chapel. I should have taken more pictures, but snapped only two: coming and going!
