Exploring #Billerica: Prayer & the Manning State Forest

A grand day here in Billerica–warm weather and blue skies. The perfect Saturday to go for an in-town hike and reflect on the Sunday Gospel.20130727-123826.jpg

In the this Sunday’s Gospel, Our Blessed Lord teaches the Our Father to the apostles (and us!). What was it like sitting at the feet of the Master learning how to pray? Why were the apostles drawn to the way Our Lord prayed? Certainly, the apostles saw something divine and desired a share of it for themselves.

More than giving us a series of pious words to repeat, Our Lord tells us about the nature of prayer. St. Thomas Aquinas notes that the Our Father has five “excellent” qualities which are required for all prayers. But more on that tomorrow!

20130727-123853.jpgThe Warren H. Manning State Forest has a hiking trail which is basically a big loop. Through middle of the loop there is another trail which might have been an old fire break or dirt road. Photo below.

What’s that cliché? Can’t see the forest through the trees…

Random boulder in the forest, must have been dropped by a glacier?

20130727-124040.jpgThere are a lot of freshwater wetlands in Billerica. I’m told they are divided into different types: bogs, marshes, swamps, and wet meadows. I don’t know what the distinctions are, but there sure is a lot of them!

Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be they name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.
We are never alone. So good of you Father Gerald to share your day with us on facebook. I like looking for lady slippers and peace pipes! Thank you for this time. I am so pleased to have your guidance. Thank you for all you do. God bless you. Love Aunty Cheryl
