Exploring #Lowell & the “Mighty Merrimack”… six miles at a time

Last night was the perfect summer night. I drove up to Lowell to visit my good friend (and classmate), Fr. Christopher Wallace. Fr. Chris is assigned to St. Rita’s and St. Marguerite’s.

I thought a short stroll along the river would be good for the soul. Fr. Chris thought a trek along the river and through the city would be good for the body and soul. As it turns out we ended up doing a six-mile journey, affectionately dubbed the “walking tour of Lowell.”

Note to self: boat shoes are OK for a mile, better opt for hiking shoes for the next five miles.

An added plus: I passed by the Saint Joseph the Worker Shrine in downtown Lowell. Perhaps a little pilgrimage there in the coming days.

Spiritual conversation: Father Chris shared an excellent reflection on the Sacrament of Reconciliation: “the only thing you have to lose in going to confession is your sins.” Very true, Father Chris.  Nothing should stand in the way of a good confession.

Full disclosure: Father Chris’s phone estimated only five and half miles. The way my legs feel tell me that it was at least six.
