When I was a kid my dad told me that if I found something I loved doing, I would never have to work a day in my life. Hopefully, we all approach this goal. At times, though, work is work. That is when we should follow the example of St. Joseph. St. Joseph was inspired to work quietly in his workshop because he loved his Holy Family at home.
I think my dad’s advice can also apply to our life of faith. If we love ourfaith, then living the faith is a joy. This remains true when we have to sacrifice, because of our love and the hope we have of what is to come.
On this Father’s Day let us be thankful for many the “life lessons” our fathers have handed on to us.
God our Father,
in your wisdom and love you made all things.
Bless these men,
that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers.
Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.
Grant that we, their sons and daughters,
may honor them always
with a spirit of profound respect.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
