At baptism each of us received a little lighted candled just as we received the gift of faith. While many of the actual candles get misplaced with the passage of time, a candle was permanently placed in each of our hearts. Hopefully, it continually burns as well. Keeping that light lit is the Christian life. However, the world, Satan, and our own disordered desires are like the wind which makes that little light flicker and seek to snuff it out. I don’t think we can realize how great a treasure that little light is. If the lighted candle is the treasure, then our very persons are the earthen vessels or clay pots. We are fragile and weak, yet each of us carries something of immense value. How can we keep this little flame safe? We start by guarding our hearts because there the flame has its home.
